The blind stuck halfway down

It’s probably the most common breakdown on the Costa Blanca. The blind tape snaps in the middle of summer, right after you pulled it down to escape the midday sun, and you leave it half-mast for months. The tear always happens in the cotton tape on the internal drum. The structure is exactly the same in 90% of apartments in Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa and around: PVC blind with box and side tape.

The change itself takes 30-45 minutes per cord. What takes time is finding the break and dismantling the box without damaging the upper housing. We work with technicians who’ve done blinds and only blinds for 10+ years and know the old Italian and Spanish models that are fitted around here.

What we do

Blinds: tape replacement, mechanism repair, motorisation with Somfy or similar, replacement of broken or dislocated slats, winder adjustment and box repair. For old blinds with brittle PVC slats sometimes repair isn’t worth it and we suggest replacing the whole blind with a new motorised model at competitive cost.

Custom mosquito nets: vertical and lateral roll-ups, sliding for terrace doors, fixed for basic windows, pleated for large patio doors. Mosquito nets are essential here because of Segura mosquitoes and the invasive tiger mosquito. We measure on-site and manufacture in a local workshop within 5-10 days.

Interior doors: installation, adjustment of doors that drag on the floor or don’t close properly due to humidity swelling, full varnishing, handle and lock changes, and sliding doors with concealed track for small flats where a normal door is in the way.

Custom built-in wardrobes and dressing rooms: design, workshop manufacture and on-site fitting. We work in melamine, lacquered finishes and natural woods according to taste and budget. Floating, parquet and laminate wood flooring with full subfloor preparation. Repair, restoration and varnishing of antique furniture.

What we do

What you learn working here

Strong sun and the humidity of sea air attack exterior wood and aluminium frames shift with heat. Wooden balcony doors particularly swell in summer and stop closing properly. The fix isn’t to plane more wood (then they don’t close in winter), it’s to adjust the hinges and apply marine varnish every 3-4 years.

Blinds with external boxes inherit another issue: the heat sticks the PVC so much that the tape comes off its original guide with thermal expansion. That’s why many blinds jam at the end of August and work fine again in September. Repositioning the tape and lubricating the guides is a 20-minute job, but you have to know.

Sliding mosquito nets for terrace doors are the most-requested item. Living with the door open is normal here, to catch the breeze, to get sea air in, but you can’t do it without a net. The cheap ones last one summer. Professional ones with aluminium profile and treated fibreglass mesh easily last 8-10 years.

Carpenters with their own workshop, not improvising fitters

We work with carpenters who have their own local workshop and have been making for area customers for years. The difference shows in the finish, rounded edges, fine sanding, hidden fixings, branded fittings with warranty. None of the cheap chipboard that swells with the first winter humidity.

For doors and bespoke wardrobes, our pros do an initial visit with tape measure and photos, build in the workshop over 2-3 weeks depending on workload, and fit on-site in a morning or full day. Disruption at home is minimal.

They replaced four blind tapes and motorised the living room blind in one morning. Clean work, fair price. Came the day after we called.

FAQ

How long to replace a blind tape?

30-45 minutes per blind. If the break is straightforward and the box is normal-access, we can do several cords in one visit.

Do you motorise old blinds or only new ones?

We motorise existing blinds wherever the box has room for a motor. We work with Somfy and others, remote control or full home automation with WiFi.

Do you make custom mosquito nets?

Yes, every net is made to measure in our workshop. 5-10 days from measurement. Roll-up, sliding, fixed and pleated models depending on the window.

Do you build custom wardrobes?

Yes. Design, workshop manufacture and on-site fitting. Typical lead time 2-3 weeks from quote acceptance. Materials: melamine, lacquer, natural woods.

Do you repair antique furniture?

Yes, restoration, sanding, varnishing and fitting changes. For valuable or very delicate pieces we partner with a specialist external restorer.

Is the quote free?

Yes, completely free and no obligation. For bespoke work we visit with a tape measure. For one-off repairs a phone quote is usually possible.
