You’ve locked yourself out. Now what?
The classic Saturday-night call from Cabo Roig. You went out to dinner, left the bag with the keys inside and the door slammed shut in the wind. You’re standing on the street with the intercom unanswered. Your home insurer covers the call-out but their technician will turn up Monday at four, not now. That’s what we get most: urgent lock-outs at awkward hours when the insurer isn’t there.
We work with locksmiths who open doors without damaging the cylinder whenever possible. If the lock allows opening with a pick or special tool because of internal wear, the opening costs 80-140 euros and takes 15-30 minutes. If it’s deadbolted from the inside or fitted with a high-end anti-bump cylinder, the only fix is full cylinder replacement at 150-260 euros.

What we see in the area
Coastal urbanisations on the Costa Blanca have a very specific profile. Lots of housing empty for months because British, German or Dutch owners only come in season. That attracts the same kinds of problems: night-time entry attempts at isolated villas, weekend squatter takeovers in blocks with many empty units, opportunist break-ins on ground floors with poorly closed blinds.
We systematically recommend anti-bump cylinders for entrance doors. Bumping is the most common technique used by burglars in Spain, a sharp tap with a special key opens any standard cylinder in under 60 seconds. A real security cylinder costs 90-160 euros installed, lasts 10 years and removes that entry vector entirely.
On the glazing side, the most common issues are glass broken by balls, accidental knocks and, in windy areas, La Mata, Punta Prima, Pilar de la Horadada, sliding doors not properly latched that the wind smashes against the frame. Replacing tempered glass in a standard 2-metre sliding door costs 280-480 euros.
