Full process from design to certification

A new electrical installation in a full renovation or new build isn’t just running cables in walls. It’s a project that starts with load calculation (how many appliances, what powers, what specials like AC or induction cooking), continues with sizing the board and cables, then physical wiring, and ends with legalisation at the electricity distributor.

For an 80-120 m² living-area home, a new installation typically includes 7-10 separate circuits: general lighting, general sockets, bathroom, kitchen, washer and dishwasher, AC, heating where present, and optionally garage and EV charger circuits.

Calculating contracted power

Contracted power with the distributor sets how many kilowatts you can use simultaneously. If the sum of appliances on at the same time exceeds it, the ICP (a power-control switch fitted by the distributor before the main board) trips.

For an average Costa Blanca home with AC, occasional electric heating and modern appliances, recommended power is 5.75 kW to 9.2 kW depending on occupants and real simultaneity. Below 5 kW falls short for most modern homes. Above 9 kW only makes sense with sauna, large pool pump or EV charger.

Changing contracted power is done via boletín signed by an authorised installer and notified to the distributor. The monthly bill includes a fixed term proportional to power, so more power means a higher monthly bill regardless of use. Sizing right avoids overpaying.

EV charging points

Electric vehicles are growing on the Costa Blanca, especially among European expats already used to the concept. A home charging point install needs specific thought. Charging on a normal Schuko outlet is slow (10 hours for 20-80% on a typical battery) and heavily loads the home circuit, usually saturating it.

The right answer is a dedicated 7.4 kW wallbox, on its own circuit at the board with dedicated MCB and RCD. Charging drops from 10 hours to 4-5 hours on a standard 60 kWh battery. We work with Wallbox, Circontrol, Schneider and EVBox.

For communal garages the install is more complex because you have to coordinate with the HOA, run a feed from the owner’s meter to the parking space, and sometimes request a power increase. We handle the whole thing if you want.

Paperwork with the local distributor

In Torrevieja and Costa Blanca the dominant distributor is Iberdrola, with smaller Endesa presence depending on municipality. Boletín admin and power change we handle directly via the official technical portal. The customer signs an authorisation, we do the rest.

Typical lead time from application to new boletín activation is 7-15 working days. During that time the installation runs at the previous power. Once active, new power is effective from the next bill.

FAQ

How long for a full new installation?

For an 80-120 m² new build, 8-15 working days including wiring, fittings and boletín. For renovation over existing installation, 5-10 days.

How do I calculate the power I need?

We size on-site based on planned appliances, hob, AC, heating and real simultaneity. Average home: 5.75-9.2 kW.

Do you cover EV charger installation?

Yes, dedicated 7.4 kW wallbox on own circuit. For communal garages we coordinate with the HOA and handle the paperwork.

Do you handle the distributor admin?

Yes, we handle boletín and power change directly with Iberdrola or Endesa depending on area. Customer just signs the authorisation.

What warranty applies to a new installation?

Manufacturer warranty on materials (3-10 years depending on brand) and our 30-day cover on labour. Boletín legalises the installation.
